Hey Band Families!
I wanted to take a minute - during this mid-year break - to thank everyone for pitching in this season. There has been a lot of team work by the parents, as well as the students, and your efforts are noticed and appreciated. Being a band parent is a lot of work - but has a lot of rewards too... so glad you are taking advantage of those opportunities!!
As you know, it has been a busy year - and after this brief pause - we are going to move into warp drive... There are quite a few things coming up in the next week that need our focus...
2) UIL Region Marching Contest is two weeks away. This is important for the band this year - and it is important for Dragon Bands of the future... The ability to host marching tournaments in the future depends on the success of the tournaments we host today! Each band family is asked to help... if you can, go to the signup and find a spot!
3) Lets be honest here - for October 31 - we need help - and lots of it! What a day! Early morning send off - BOA in San Antonio and then concessions back here in Round Rock that night! Homecoming greetings of old friends - Car Raffle Drawing... and .... its the Westwood game... A LOT for one day! We can do it, but again, we are going to need everyone to pitch in... (and perhaps for this day - maybe your aunts and uncles as well). Please consider filling in one of the vacant spots in our concession stand, or one of the teams in San Antonio.
4) ITS NOT ALL WORK! Next Saturday, October 11 is Westlake - and you know what that means (no- not rain - not this year please!) It means its time for the DragonBand Westlake Tailgate! You can find all the details on the signup... This year it's a bring-your-own-dinner and an appetizer and dessert potluck.... 5) We are still selling those raffle tickets! Next ticket turn in is Thursday, October 9! (details below).
6) While it seems we ask a lot of each of our families - remember - THIS IS FUN! I rarely share stuff like this - but - this video captures exactly why so many of our parents have joined in to help the band.... While it is not filmed by our kids .... What a weekend! It was so much fun to see the show, complete with uniforms... and props... and visuals... and hard work... It was an honor to be part of a competition with such great bands from all around the area. We are proud of the work all these students and directors have done. And to think... this is just the starting point!
Its perfect timing for a bye week. Let our kids get caught up on homework and sleep. Take a step back, and then....its full steam ahead! One month to BOA - San Antonio - two months to Pasadena! It's hard to believe that is all right around the corner! Enjoy your restful time this week - and get ready to run!

The Dragon Band booster organization is hosting the UIL Region Marching Competition - and it is going to take a joint effort from all our parents to make it run smoothly.. Our sign up has been updated, with several additional volunteer slots available. Follow the link and pick your shift now...
Concessions are looking pretty good... There are a few open slots next Friday night - and then the schedule looks pretty good - until 10/31 - Homecoming. This is a major concern - if you have friends or family members that would like to help - please know they are more than welcome to pitch in. We have also put a plea out to the middle schools for volunteers as well.... The busiest night of the year!l We can do this... follow the link to sign up...
The students are doing a GREAT job with the props this year. They are loading, assembling, hauling, and putting the props away at the end of the night! Well Done! We do need a crew of parents to help as well. If you'd like to join the prop team - follow the link.
We will be bringing the props to Festival of Bands on Monday night - so there are new openings for volunteers on the signup. Just follow the link....

The Next Ticket Turn In Date:
Now that we have covered the costs of our prizes and tickets, it’s all profit from here! Time to kick those sales into high gear! Remember, if we exceed $20,000 in profit, any funds in excess of that amount will be added to our trip fund to be divided equally to all band students.
Our next ticket turn-in date will be Thursday, October 9th starting at 6:30pm. Weather permitting; Alison will be taking ticket stubs and money under the trees near the picnic tables. If it’s raining, she will be in one of the practice rooms in the hallway adjacent to the band hall. Please come by to turn in your SOLD ticket stubs and money. If you have unsold tickets that you know you cannot sell, please turn those in that night as well. If you think you’ll still be able to sell them, please hold on to them and keep trying until our final ticket turn in night at the end of October.

If you are interested in selling tickets at Round Rock Market Days - October 11 - we are going to have a booth set up - 2 hour shifts - from 9-4. The volunteers who work that last shift will have plenty of time to make it down to Westlake for the finals round of the competition.
