End of Year Follow-up

Hey Band Families!!!

It was great to see everyone at the concert Friday night.  What a wonderful evening - excellent performances by each of our bands.  The Wind Ensemble's performances included a piece featuring an outstanding solo by Tim Michie.  There was even a performance by the student-led Saxaphone Choir during one of the transitions.  The students had a great time working with Mr. W. Dale Warren from the Sousa Foundation during the day, and then he honored the band, by presenting the Sudler Shield to the band directors and administrators.  We were even allowed a touching moment to show our appreciation to Mr. Jim Van Zandt who will retire from his position of Director of Fine Arts for RRISD at the end of this school year!  It was a great evening... and if you weren't able to make it, you can replay the music over and over again.  Just follow this link.  

And, on that outstanding note, the 2014-15 Dragon Band had it's final performance of the year.

There are still a few things going on right now - and a couple carry-overs into the summer season.  

School Fundraiser

First - for those of you who participated in the school fundraiser - sheet sale - you can expect your deliveries some time later this week.    Check your email for updates!

Spirit Sales for 2015-16 School Year

Spirit Sales Committee will be holding its first meeting, June 7.  If you are interested in being on this committee  follow THIS LINK


We are beginning to put together our "roady" team... those folks who get our trucks to and from the school, and drive them to events.   Just a standard driver license is needed to drive the trucks, but we do have some forms and such we need to do for the district.  If you are interested or think you might be interested please check out the sign up HERE

Dell Diamond Concessions

We have made it to the half-way point!  The Dell Diamond fundraiser is doing very well.  We have received our initial check in the amount of $3886 that covered the first 8 games.   That is an average of $9.42 per person per hour for the first 8 games!  We have completed an additional 6 games and will receive that check in approximately two weeks - we will keep you posted!

Our upcoming stands have the following openings:

                                                    Thu, May 28 (Guard Night) - 1 TABC and 3 Runners                                                        Sat, June 6 (Saxaphone Night) - 4 TABC - 3 Runners

Then we are good through 6/18!  

Thank you to everyone who has helped!  And special thanks to those who have rolled with the weather and adapted to the ever-changing schedules.    See the note from our Dell Diamond and Volunteer Coordinators with regard to the spring scheduling:

They are very slow to postpone games, there will almost always be a delay before they will postpone. There is just so much the General Managers have to take into considreration in rescheduling a game - and how many times have we waited an hour and the weather did change. So even if it is raining and looks to be getting worse, if you are scheduled to work head on out to the park. We really do a lot of business during those delays - particularly if it is a great give away night or thirsty Thursday.

From here on out the games are all evening games so if a double header does need to be scheduled for a make up game it will mean an earlier start time. We realize a lot of our volunteers work and can not get of early if this happens, but if at all possible we do need you there at the earlier start time or as soon after as you can get there. As soon as we become aware of a time change we will get an email out to you with the new start time. Double headers are two 7 inning games so they are longer but not signifacantly, there have been regular games go into extra innings that have lasted longer.

Stand managers - if you are working a game that gets postponed please email
dragonbandconcessions@gmail.com and rrbbvc@yahoo.com as soon as possible with the information. It can sometime take a bit for RS3 to notify us because they are trying to shut down the operation while also trying to let people know they need to be in early. This gives us a chance to get the word out to our folks faster.




Creekside Charity BINGO –


Did you hear?  Renovations are underway!  New chairs and tables are in... painting the walls and replacing the ceiling tiles are in the works as well! The place is getting a great new look!   Come check it out!   Monday, Tuesday or Saturday night (and often Fridays as well).  It is in the process of renovating, new chairs have already arrived.... New tables any day.... and a painting project will be complete in a few weeks!  Its going to look great!     Our band's major source of income is through our association with  Creekside Charity Bingo.

Around the School and Community



A memorial fund to offset expenses has been set up at First Texas Bank and checks can be made out to First Texas Bank - be certain to include "Karen Barnett" in the memo line. The account will be kept open for 60 days.  The funds will be available to the Barnetts as they need it during that time and if it goes beyond what is needed for the funeral or medical expenses, the remaining balance will be given to the family or converted into their own separate account, depending on the amount of funds received.Checks can be dropped off at any First Texas Bank branch or can be mailed to:

As some of you may have already heard, our lead custodian here at RRHS, Tony Alvarado is trying to raise money for his wife. His wife, Debra, recently suffered a stroke and passed a blood clot through her heart, which caused paralysis on the right side of her body. Funds are being raised to help defray the cost of rehabilitation.
